Why Skincare and Hygiene are Important

The part of our body which interacts the most with the environment is our skin. A damaged skin is a source of trouble and discomfort. Hence, it becomes necessary to take good care of our skin.

Given below are some reasons that will explain why it is essential to take care of our skin.

1. It Is Our First Line of Defense

While carrying out the day-to-day activities, our skin suffers a lot of abuse. This results in abrasions, nicks, cuts, shears etc. All these take a heavy toll on our skin. Skin also acts as the first line of defense in our bodies against – germs, bacteria, viruses, pathogens etc. If our skin is damaged or punctured, then these pathogens gain an easy entry into our body. Once inside, pathogens create havoc. Therefore it is important that we take good care of our skin.

2. Different Types of Skin React Differently

People have different types of skin. Skin types are dry skin, oily skin, sensitive skin, sun burnt skin, aging skin and combination skin. All these types of skin react in a different manner to the surroundings and changing seasons. Most people are not aware of this fact. The result can be skin rashes, eczema and a myriad of skin problems. All this can be avoided by taking a few basic precautions, which is the only thing required in most instances.

3. Different Areas of the Skin Are Exposed To Different Conditions

We wear different clothes according to our comfort, necessity, profession, region, religious beliefs, and depending on whether we are indoors or outdoors. Under these circumstances, various parts of our body are exposed to diverse types of condition over a period of 24 hours. The most exposed areas are our face and hands. Other areas like the butt, the sole of the feet and probably the back are exposed less. Under such conditions, the exposed areas suffer from heat, sunlight, moisture, abrasion, wind, dust etc. These conditions make these areas rough. That is why we should take special care of exposed skin, just like we take care of our face.

We are identified by our faces hence facial skin requires special treatment. This does not mean that the covered areas do not suffer. In other areas, skin suffers continuous scraping, as we move about a lot, even when we are sitting in a chair. Hence, these areas too need to be soothed by massage and properly lotioned. Overall, our skin suffers from a lot of stress due to our lifestyle and activities. Hence we need to take good care of it

4. Skin Contains Fine Blood Vessels

Just beneath the exposed layer of our skin is a fine mesh of blood vessels that keeps our skin supplied with fresh blood. The reason we see a dash of red on the skin, for example when people blush or when they are hit, is due to blood that gets directed to the skin covering those parts. These blood vessels can rupture starting an infection which then moves deeper into out bodies. Hence, it is necessary to take good care of our skin and keep it protected.

The above-mentioned points illustrate why we need to care for our skin and why we should ensure proper hygiene. Failing to do so often gives rise to troubles and diseases which can otherwise be easily avoided.
